Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola summed up the results of the Champions League 1/8 final return leg against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-0; 2-0 first leg).
“A good performance, we controlled the game from the start. It’s not an easy tournament, but everything became easier for us after two goals – everyone was in the right positions, moving the ball quickly,” the coach told BBC.
About his team, he commented: “We have a lot of skilful players like Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva who help us a lot. But overall everyone is working for the good of the team and we are happy to reach the quarterfinals.
“The only goal we conceded [in this CL] was against Porto. It is impressive. It’s a huge step forward for the team. Everybody moves a lot, not only the forwards. It is important to understand that with the ball we defend.
“When we lose it – we must act aggressively. All the teams now, considering the level, are capable to punish you.”
“After the break for the national team matches we will have time to think. The quality of the game is getting better every time and I hope that this approach will be maintained. I always think whoever comes next does so deservedly. We will try to play well and see where that goes.
“Everyone is healthy now, so we can afford to rotate 6 or 7 people. We need to be fresh if we want to fight for trophies in different tournaments. The seasons are very long and we haven’t had a week without a game in the middle since October.”
