Manchester City won 1-2 over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes yesterday. To catch up on the thrilling moments of this match, of which there were many, watch the PSG vs Man City highlights here.
Though Marqinhos’ goal gave PSG a lead they maintained for over an hour of the match, two City goals followed.
Both, captain Kevin de Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez, scored unexpected goals. De Bruyne bizarrely wasn’t even trying to score, whereas Mahrez’s free kick somehow slid through a wall of defenders.
Here are the most relevant PSG vs Man City highlights, as published on Manchester City’s official website:
PSG scored just thirteen minutes into the match. Neymar shot the ball under the crossbar, but Ederson deflected it.
In the ensuing corner kick, after a pass, Marquinhos found himself superbly placed in the penalty area for a header. He delivered a head shot from the fourth meter and gave the hosts a 1-0 lead.
City couldn’t equalize this lead until the 64th minute. Kevin de Bruyne tried to pass to his teammates in the penalty area from afar.
But instead of reaching them, the ball reached the back of the net. He himself, his squad, and PSG goalkeeper Navas were all shocked by how the ball curved right into the net.
Just a few minutes later, in the 71st minute, City won a free kick. Riyad Mahrez shot straight through a wall of players, which parted so surprisingly that Navas couldn’t deflect the ball.
Mahrez, who was born in Paris, thus made history by scoring a crucial, decisive goal to win against Paris Saint-Germain.
Guardiola Silences Critics
Unlike in previous years, City head coach Pep Guardiola seemed relaxed throughout the build-up, despite PSG in lead.
It must be this confidence that he transmitted to his players, as well, as they kept up a solid defence. This calm is also why City players could perhaps retaliate patiently and win a match they were losing.
Guardiola explained post-match: “Sometimes you need time to be relaxed and to be ourselves.
“The first half is normal – over 180 minutes you don’t want to lose the ball and you don’t play free,” he added. “We changed a little bit the way we pressed and the second half we were more aggressive.”
So, it seems we were wrong about City’s confident consistency this season!
