Paris Saint-Germain striker Lionel Messi has failed to make much of an impact at Parc des Princes. And Rafael van der Vaart believes the former Barcelona forward and captain only has himself to blame for this under-performance.
Rafael van der Vaart Has Criticized Lionel Messi’s Attitude
The midfielder, formerly an Ajax and Dutch international player, has commented on Messi’s track record on the PSG pitch.
“It makes me sad. It is a question of a will. Either you want to or you don’t,” the Dutchman said, as per Mundo Deportivo.
“If Messi doesn’t score or assists, he had a bad game. Neymar, on the other hand, keeps his eyes wide open. He sees more, as well as Mbappe. It seems to me that Messi doesn’t fit in somehow.
“When you see Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, I know they are two completely different types of players, but he is fighting and wants to take the team to another level.
“Messi walks on the pitch from time to time and I think: ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’
“I’m starting to get annoyed with Messi. And that’s a shame, because a player like that will never be born again.
“It already started with Ronald Koeman. He just refused to work and that’s not right for a player like Messi.”
