Real Madrid reportedly expected to offer for Kai Havertz €80 m (£71 m) during the transfer window this summer, before the coronavirus pandemic changed their plans.
Since the Bundesliga returned last month, the 20-year-old has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen and has now scored 15 times in 38 appearances for his German club this season.
Manchester United continues to be connected with the German, which is supposed to be open to joining the side of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer. Bayer Leverkusen also credited Bayern Munich and Liverpool with an interest in the German.
Now, it appears, these clubs have an equal shot of signing Havertz, the same as Real Madrid.
Madrid had planned to launch a €80 m (£71 m) offer for Havertz this summer, according to Bild, and were prepared to allow the attacker to stay at the Bay Arena for another season.
The report claims, however, that the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak means that Zinedine Zidane’s side can no longer afford to sign the youngster before the 2020-21 campaign.
