Ronaldo advises Neymar to turn to medical help. After Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup, Neymar posted a message on Instagram, in which he wrote that he was “mentally broken”.
It was not the first time that Neymar has spoken about his mental problems. Ronaldo recognized himself in the statements of the taste maker and gave him advice during an interview at an event in Doha. “I would advise him to seek psychological help,” his compatriot said. “The pressure he’s dealing with is too great for a human being.”
Ronaldo thinks Neymar will eventually recover
Ronaldo thinks Neymar will eventually recover from the big blow of the elimination. Neymar himself said he does not know whether he will play another World Cup. “He will keep the same passion and desire, but I think it’s important to pay attention to the mental state of our players. Especially at a World Cup, the eyes of the whole world are on you. The whole world was watching Neymar,” he suggested.
“When I saw Neymar’s statements, my heart broke. I’ve felt that way too. I wanted to help him. That help is there. In my time there was little talk about it,” continued Ronaldo, who himself became world champion twice with Brazil. “He knows that the Brazilian people expect every star player to make the team world champions. But Neymar has proven his worth. Everyone wants to become world champion, but that’s not easy.”
Ronaldo is not the first former top footballer to express concern about Neymar’s mental state. In March, Thierry Henry referenced statements Neymar made in the Netflix documentary Neymar: “The Perfect Chaos. In it, the star player of Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain let us know how he deals with the pressure and high expectations. He’s been talking a lot recently about his well-being, about the pressure… So my first question was, is he okay?” Henry said, “He talks to us, but do we hear him? He asks for help, because all kinds of things are going on in his head, just like with every human being.”
