English Premier League legend Alan Shearer and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reacted to Leeds United’s top-flight sealing promotion.
The Elland Road outfit was Saturday crowned Championship winners after their campaign’s 27th league victory. After a 16-year relegation spell, they were finally promoted to first league.
During his playing career with Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle United, Shearer scored 22 goals against Leeds, with 20 coming in 19 top-flight matches, and he’s delighted they’re finally back.
“The Premier League is set to be a better place to have Leeds in it. They ‘re a large, big club with a huge base of fans, “the former striker told.
“They have been through some difficult times – 16 years without being in ‘The Big League’ is a long, long time – and they blew it last year when things were going really well for them.
“But they’ve bounced back well and shown a great attitude and their manager, Marcelo Bielsa, will be an interesting addition too. He has got the team playing a high-pressure game, with tremendous work-rate and energy.”
Guardiola also reacted to the side’s promotion. The Catalan consulted with the Leeds head coach prior to taking a step into management.
