Stuttgart 2-3 Eintracht Frankfurt: This year’s DFB-Pokal final is between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig. The former club managed to put VfB Stuttgart over the knee in the semi-final.
Eintracht Frankfurt overturns the game in four minutes and reports in the DFB-Pokal final
VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt have never met each other in a DFB Pokal game against each other before. However, across all competitions between the two clubs. Eintracht Frankfurt have come off better in the last five fixtures. Die Adler have won twice in those five fixtures. While the other three ended in draws. Interestingly, it was 1-1 scorelines in all of those fixtures.
Stuttgart – Eintracht was a match between the numbers fifteen and nine of the Bundesliga. It was especially striking that Stuttgart is still in the fight against relegation, but could also enter the Europa League by winning the DFB-Pokal. It didn’t come to that.
The difference on the field was noticeable, because Stuttgart was the better side for the first half hour at least. Thanks to Tiago Tomas, the home team had the first big chance of the game, were it not for Kevin Trapp who managed to defuse that attempt with a nice save. Although the deserved opening goal fell shortly afterwards via the same Tomas, who still outwitted Trapp with a nice bang in the short corner.
Second half
Eintracht managed to completely turn the game around in the space of four minutes. Shortly after the resumption, Evan Ndicka scored, then Daichi Kamada did the same. The Japanese cut down his direct opponent and hit the short corner. At Stuttgart the best was gone, it seemed. After a flashy counter by Eintracht, Stuttgart goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow knocked down Randal Kolo Muani. The referee pointed to the spot and Muani scored the 1-3. Enzo Millot’s 2-3 came too late. In the final phase, everything and everyone at Stuttgart screamed for a penalty kick, because deep into injury time, hands would have been made by an Eintracht player, but the referee did not want that.
In the final on June 3, Eintracht will face title holder RB Leipzig, who already managed to put Freiburg aside on Tuesday with playful ease.
