In the (Asian) AFC World Cup qualifiers’ third round, Son Heung Min has led South Korea to a good position. As such, Australian legend Tim Cahill has backed Son Heung Min to shine at the Qatar World Cup next year.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung Min has long been a torch bearer and ideal representation for Asian football and footballers.
In fact, the South Korean star is the top Asian goalscorer in the English Premier League and UEFA’s Champions League.
Moreover, on the international stage, the 29-year-old has scored three South Korea goals in the third-round World Cup qualifiers already.
Because of him, on his shoulders, South Korea are second in their group and are well-poised to secure automatic qualification.
Tim Cahill Has Backed Son Heung Min to Shine at the Qatar World Cup
So, naturally, Tim Cahill feels Son Heung Min is among the very best players in the world not just Asia.
Cahill is currently in Qatar as the Chief Sports Officer of the Aspire Academy.
And the Australian legend has, for one, called Son one of the very best players in the world right now.
“In the world of football, Son is incredible. I wouldn’t say (in terms of Asian players). I’d say among the world. He is a top, top performer,” Cahill expressed his admiration for Son in a chat with South Korean media outlet KBS.
“He has proven that anything is possible (if you set your minds to it). I’m a big fan of his,” the Australian added.
Cahill also sent an encouraging message to Son. The Australian legend asked the South Korean one to replicate his famous boxing celebration while scoring in 2022’s World Cup.
“I want to see this (punching) in the World Cup, Son. But not against Australia,” Cahill quipped over Son jovially.
