Juventus won 3-1 over Genoa, and Andrea Pirlo is safe as the head coach with Juventus third in Serie A. But much of the buzz after the match has been created around Cristiano Ronaldo. At the final whistle, he took off his shirt and threw it. And everyone’s wondering the same thing – why did Ronaldo throw his shirt?
Ronaldo took off his shirt and he threw it toward the back of the goal post. He thus walked off without the Juve shirt when the players were called back to the bullpen.
Why did Ronaldo throw his shirt?
Was the Portugal footballer venting his frustration at not scoring? After all, his team won the match – that surely did not upset him.
Or does Ronaldo throwing his Juventus shirt symbolize a conscious or subliminal desire to transfer away?
Neither, according to some sources; instead, he had promised his shirt to a ball boy, and threw it to him. Indeed, a ball boy picked up the jersey when Ronaldo tossed it to the side at the end.
However, his coach Pirlo had a different take on the gesture- he admitted some anger.
“It’s normal he wanted to score a goal, especially seeing that the match had turned out in a certain way,” he said to Sky Sport. “It is part of the attitude of champions who always want to leave their mark.”
So, Pirlo has remained upfront about the situation, and still defended his star player.
Nonetheless, Ronaldo was in the news just some ago too, when he threw his captain’s armband to the ground.
He walked down the tunnel after a goal was disallowed during Portugal’s draw with Serbia in World Cup qualifying.
