Granit Xhaka’s transfer to Bayer Leverkusen has been confirmed. The Swiss midfielder is making a comeback in the German Bundesliga as a Bayer Leverkusen player, seven years after Arsenal displaced him from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Arsenal makes room for Rice: hated and loved Xhaka to Bundesliga
Fans were aware enough when Leverkusen tweeted quotes from the Apollo 13 movie. Xhaka is able to use his trademark rocket-like long-range shot as well as free kick. He agrees to a five-year deal with the team that currently fields Mitchel Bakker, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, and Jeremie Frimpong. Particularly Bakker and Frimpong appear to be headed for their departure at Leverkusen.
Thus, Xhaka’s time in London will come to an end after seven years. The midfielder was adored for his excellent performance and beautiful goals, but not everyone in the English city was singing his praises. After problems with fans, Xhaka received many unjustified red cards and dropped his captain’s armband.
After a 2019 match against Crystal Palace ended in a draw, Xhaka was whistled, and the Swiss made the appropriate motions in response. Following that, manager Unai Emery changed the captain, but Xhaka was still given playing time. In the end, he helped Arsenal win four titles.
A position in midfield will open up with the exit of Xhaka, who is reputedly valued at roughly 25 million euros. Declan Rice of West Ham United is the subject of an open-secret record contract with The Gunners.
Reus stops as captain at Borussia Dortmund
Staying in Germany, Marco Reus has relinquished the captain’s armband at Borussia Dortmund. The 34-year-old strongman came to the conclusion during his vacation that he no longer wants to be captain of Germany’s number two.
“I had a long time during my holiday to think about this,” Reus told Dortmund’s club channel. “I have decided to pass on the captain’s armband to someone else. Yesterday I informed the club about this. It was an honor to wear the band for five years.”
Reus wishes trainer Edin Terzic and director Sebastian Kehl good luck with the search for a new captain. There is a good chance that Mats Hummels will be the new captain. He already regularly wore the captain’s armband at Dortmund last season in the absence of Reus. Reus was not always sure of his place last season.
