Hero World Challenge: Due to a foot issue, Tiger Woods has decided to drop out of the Hero World Challenge.
Three of this year’s four men’s major winners and eight of the top 11 golfers in the world were among the Albany tournament’s star-studded field when the 46-year-old event host announced his withdrawal on Monday.
Sepp Straka, a Ryder Cup contender for Europe who won his first PGA Tour event at the Honda Classic in February of this year, replaces Woods.

Woods said in a statement that he had “developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk” due to training and preparation for this week’s Hero World Challenge.
“I have chosen to withdraw this week and concentrate on my hosting responsibilities after talking with my physicians and trainers.
“I still have competition in The Match and PNC Championships in mind.”
Woods has won the Bahamas five times, but he hasn’t competed in his own event since 2019. The 2020 tournament was postponed due to Covid-19, and he had to miss last year’s competition as he recovered from career-threatening leg injuries sustained in a car accident last February.
Only three starts have been made by the former world No. 1, who finished 47th at The Masters, withdrew after the third round of the PGA Championship, and missed the cut at The 150th Open in July. Woods has slipped to No. 1,277 in the world due to his sparse playing schedule in recent years.
On December 10, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth will face off against Woods and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy in the match.
The PNC Championship, which will be held on December 17 and 18, comes next, and Tiger Woods and his son Charlie are expected to play. In the 36-hole scramble competition’s 2021 iteration, the two came in second place.
The Hero World Challenge will be broadcast live in all four rounds on Sky Sports, with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. for the first two rounds and five hours of action beginning at 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
