Justin Rose is aiming to compete for a position on the 2017 European Ryder Cup team after establishing his major credentials with a victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
With a commanding three-shot victory at Pebble Beach, the former world No. 1 snapped a four-year winless streak. He finished the week on 18 under par and captured his 11th PGA Tour title by shooting a final-round 66.
The Masters, the first men’s major of the year, and the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in May are now confirmed for Rose, who entered the week ranked 71 in the world and in risk of missing out for the first time since 2010.

Rose admitted that Augusta had been on her mind a lot lately. “I figured the easiest way to go about it would be to try to play my way into the top 50 in the world by the deadline, which I assumed would be sometime in March.
“My goal was to start strong, gain some points, and work my way up the world rankings until I reached it. Winning a competition is a better approach to success! It’s funny how everything works out when you win because you get the points.
“Yes, being able to plan a little bit more of the run-up to Augusta at this point is quite comforting. I was playing a little bit more than I might have liked to as a result of that. It is incredible to have the luxury now, though.”
Rose’s Ryder Cup comeback?
The 42-year-old Englishman nearly missed being chosen for Europe’s Ryder Cup team in 2021, when they were defeated at Whistling Straits by a record-breaking margin. However, he aims to be in Luke Donald’s lineup in Rome in September.
Rose is hoping to either be one of the six automatic qualifiers or the six captain’s choices to round up Donald’s squad at Marco Simone GC after his victory moved him up to ninth place in the World Points list during Europe’s ongoing, year-long qualification campaign, which runs through September.
So good to see @JustinRose99 back in the winners circle again, nice to see all the work you’ve been putting in pay off Rosey 👊🏼👍🏼

With several stalwarts switching to LIV Golf and having few opportunities to play to earn qualification points, Team Europe is likely to change significantly for the 2023 competition. Rose has been focused on getting back into shape before turning his attention to a potential sixth Ryder Cup appearance.
Since I’ve been playing the way I have, Rose continued, “I’ve had to be fairly selfish and just focus on me and my improvement and what I need to do to start playing better golf. Other than the fact that I want to be there, I haven’t really considered what the Ryder Cup may look like for me.”
