LIV Golf League: Thomas Pieters, a Ryder Cup candidate and six-time DP World Tour champion, is one of the golfers whose participation in the Saudi-sponsored LIV Golf League for the 2023 season has been confirmed.
The world’s number 34, who tied for sixth place in his most recent outing at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last month, was a member of Continental Europe’s successful Hero Cup team earlier this year and is anticipated to be a candidate for Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team in Rome this September.
Before to the 14-event league season, which kicks off in Mexico on Friday, Pieters was confirmed on Monday as a member of Bubba Watson’s Range Goats GC side. LIV Golf released its first four team line-ups last Wednesday and four more the following day.
Despite having a high world ranking relative to the rest of the field, Pieters was upset that he was not granted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Genesis Invitational on the PGA Tour, where he came second to Dustin Johnson in 2017.
Pieters, who has been banned from the PGA Tour indefinitely for joining LIV Golf, tweeted: “Missing my favourite tournament of the year makes me sad. Since I am No. 34 in the world, I was unable to enter.”
Sad to miss my favorite tournament of the year. Because well as #34 in world, I just couldn’t get in @PGATOUR. 🤷🏻♂️ #GenesisInvitational

Who else has agreed to LIV?
Brendan Steele, a three-time PGA Tour champion, was also added to Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC on Monday. Danny Lee, a New Zealander, was added to the Kevin Na-captained Iron Heads GC.
The all-South African squad Stinger GC, led by former major champion Louis Oosthuizen, has hired Dean Burmester, a two-time DP World Tour winner and current world No. 63.
Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz, who competed in the Presidents Cup, were named as members of the Torque GC on Wednesday. The first eight team lineups were finalised last week.
Major winners Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Patrick Reed are among the athletes who will participate in the LIV Golf Invitational Series again in 2023 after competing in the first event last year.
The Majesticks squad, which also includes Sam Horsfield, will be led by co-captains Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Henrik Stenson.
A spot in the 2023 LIV Golf League was guaranteed for those who placed in the top 24 of the 2022 Invitational Series.
