Mauritius Open: After winning his up-and-down struggle with the wind to shoot a third-round 68, Antoine Rozner will hold a two-stroke lead going into the final day of the Mauritius Open.
The Frenchman, one of three co-leaders overnight, started with back-to-back bogeys in challenging circumstances but calmed down to shoot a four-under round with seven birdies, leaving him at 14 under.
On 12 under, fellow countryman Julien Brun is his closest rival, one stroke ahead of Oliver Bekker of South Africa and two ahead of Pierre Pineau, Sami Valimaki, and another Frenchman.
It was hard out there, according to Rozner. More wind was present than yesterday. It was by no means simple. I believed that the long game was difficult and the putting was even harder.
“I encountered some difficulty. On the fourth hole, I made a great putt that really helped.”
A run of five birdies in ten holes, punctuated by a bogey at the tenth, followed by a birdie-birdie finish to put clear water between the leader and the pack, was started by an uphill 25-footer at the fourth.
A seven iron off the tee that Rozner kept low to face the breeze was the key to his two at the short 17th hole, and his second to the par-five closing hole nearly resulted in an eagle before Rozner finally tapped in for a four.
The 29-year-old, who missed out on the championship in a playoff three years ago, added, “I wish I could have maybe holed a couple more at the finish but it is what it is and there is one more round to go.” “I feel like I missed a lot of chances, but I still shot four under, so considering the circumstances, that’s quite good,” the golfer said.
Brun was one of five players to shoot a five-under 67 on the day, but neither Valimaki nor Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia, the other two overnight leaders, were able to break par.
