Mauritius Open: At the halfway point of the Mauritius Open, Antoine Rozner scored the lowest round of the day to share the lead.
Frenchman Rozner joined Sami Valimaki and Spanish player Alfredo Garcia-Heredia on eight under par after shooting eight birdies in his bogey-free, eight-under-par 64.
The Finnish golfer Valimaki, who achieved a course-record 10-under-par 62 on Thursday, threatened an even lower score by getting out to a quick start, adding three strokes in his first six holes after exploding on the back nine.
However, he lost momentum as a costly bogey-double bogey finish halted his surge.
Such issues weren’t an issue for Rozner, who stated following his round: “One of the first times in my professional life, I believe, where I’m content with every single score on every single hole.
That happens very infrequently, and I don’t think I can do any better on this course. I was pleased with how I played considering how difficult and intricate it was.
“In the side winds, you had to aim far to the right or left. After making one error on the first five, I didn’t make many blunders. However, my short game and putting both played well, so I’m satisfied overall.”
