Mauritius Open: At the Mauritius Open, Antoine Rozner won his third DP World Tour Championship with a flourish after pulling away from the competition with a final-round score of 67 to win by five strokes.
After runner-up Alfredo Garcia-Heredia (67) briefly threatened to make it interesting with five front-nine birdies, the Frenchman’s challengers were defeated by a run of three birdies and an eagle in the five holes before the turn.
Rozner’s 19-under score was the same as the one he shot in the competition three years prior when he lost the championship in a playoff.
This time, there was no such drama as the first Tour victory since the Qatar Masters in 2021 was easily won, in part because of a strong run between the seventh and ninth holes.
Antoine Rozner only had a 10-foot eagle putt after an approach shot from the light rough at the seventh hole, and then he made back-to-back birdies with a 12-foot shot from the front of the green at the short eighth hole and a huge putt at the ninth hole to solidify his lead.
The remaining nine holes went without incident, and he birdied the last to give his excellent four days’ worth of work the proper capping off.
After the game, Rozner called the victory “unbelievable,” adding, “It’s a tough game. We work so hard all year long in practice, and I’m really happy I finished this. I’m just ecstatic since winning is so difficult.
“I didn’t want to see because I didn’t know anything about the results. I was aware that I was ahead. I knew that if I continued to play in this manner, there would be no problem at all, but it was really challenging.”
Rozner’s nerve was initially put to the test by Garcia-Heredia, whose consecutive birdies at holes two and three sent him toward the turn in 31. However, the co-leader at halfway was unable to exert any pressure on the back nine, and in the end, a third-round score of 73 cost him any chance of winning.
Julien Brun, who entered the final round two shots behind Rozner, stumbled slightly with a level-par 72 but managed to hold onto third place on 12 under, one ahead of a trio that included Ko Jeong Weon, Simon Forsstrom, and Dylan Mostert.
