QBE Shootout: In order to hold onto a two-shot lead going into the final day of the PGA Tour’s QBE Shootout at the Tiburon Golf Club in Florida, Charley Hoffman and Ryan Palmer teamed for a 10-under 62.
Tom Hoge and Sahith Theegala were able to maintain their lead going into Sunday’s fourball match thanks to the pair’s 62 in the alternate shot format, which was six shots better than what they needed in Friday’s first scrambling round.
Hoge and Theegala’s second consecutive 60, the best round of the day, was aided in part by an eagle-filled stretch of seven under between holes 11 and 17.
They were now two shots behind the leaders’ 26-under total and two shots ahead of the two teams who were tied for third, Jason Day and Billy Horschel and Harris English.
The latter pair began their round with three consecutive birdies and eventually shot 61, moving up seven spots on the 12-team leaderboard.
Max Homa and Kevin Kisner, who were second overnight, fell to fifth place on 21 under after managing only a 65.
Nelly Korda and Denny McCarthy also had a difficult day; their 67 was seven strokes lower than their opening round and included a double bogey at the par-four 11th.
