QBE Shootout: Sahith Theegala and Tom Hoge closed with a 10-under 62 in fourballs and became the first rookie duo to win the QBE Shootout in 11 years thanks to their 15-foot birdie putt on the last hole.
At the Tiburon Golf Club, Ryan Palmer and Charley Hoffman both missed birdie putts from about 12 feet that would have necessitated a play-off and given them the lead after the first two days.
Theegala had just had a successful rookie PGA Tour season in which he reached the Tour Championship and twice had winning opportunities.
Theegala remarked, “It’s good to get a taste of winning because it’s so hard out here.

When Theegala injured a muscle in his left side on the first hole, Hoge, who won his first PGA Tour championship at Pebble Beach in February, took up a large portion of the early burden.
Theegala claimed that by the end of the day, it felt better and he could swing more forcefully.
Even at the very end, they still had to deal with Palmer and Hoffman.
On the par-5 17th hole, Palmer attempted to chip up a steep hill, but his attempt failed as the ball came back to him. He took the following ball fast and hammered it into the cup for an improbable birdie that gave his team a share of the lead.
After shooting 62, Harris English and Matt Kuchar, who was attempting to win the QBE Shootout for the fourth time, placed second, two strokes back.
Kevin Kisner and Max Homa had a 63 to place fourth.
Nelly Korda, the top LPGA Tour player, tied for sixth after shooting 62 with Denny McCarthy.
