Bermuda Championship: Seamus Power is hoping that winning the Bermuda Championship, his second PGA Tour victory, keeps him in the Ryder Cup conversation.
After winning the Barbasol Championship in 2021, Power doubled the number of victories on the PGA Tour with a final day of 70 to defeat Belgium’s Thomas Detry by one stroke.
After a night of revelry on Sunday and a day to recover, he gets right back to work and starts working on his technique in preparation for the World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba.
Power believes that his victory in Bermuda will put him in a strong position as the year comes to a close.
The victory itself, Power remarked on Tuesday, “is huge.”
It’s really great. It’s a really reassuring feeling to know that you’ll be on Tour through the end of 2025, as my manager confirmed to me when he said it out loud.
“It’s lovely. It’s comforting to know that is available no matter what. When you don’t have to slightly peek over your shoulder, playing golf at a high level becomes much simpler.
Power played Monday qualifiers 18 months ago to ensure that he would receive some starts, and now he has another PGA Tour trophy to his name. But the 35-year-conviction old’s remained unwavering.
“I honestly thought, deep down, that I was capable of winning. I didn’t feel like I was that far away at that particular time, he added.
“Now, a lot has changed in my profession since then. Having the two victories on paper is still very important, and getting the exemption is incredible.
“I never doubted my ability to get here, even though it may have appeared that way from the outside. I feel like I’ve been playing golf for a good 18 months, and I’ll try to continue for longer.
When looking back, Power notes that a number of factors, including the hiring of caddy Simon Keelan, combined to give his improved consistency.
I had a difficult year in 2020 because of an elbow issue, requiring surgery at the end of the year, he admitted.
“Simon is a great addition. I genuinely believe that having him on the bag changes the game when I’m in contention.
“I changed my sports psychologist a couple of seasons ago, so everything came together to really get me moving,” the athlete said.
Power has had Keelan on her backpack since 2019. The two have been friends for a long time, and Power thinks their friendship has been a big help in both good and difficult times.
