Solheim Cup: Stacy Lewis, a two-time major winner, will continue to serve as Team USA’s captain for the 2024 Solheim Cup, becoming just the fifth woman to do so for two or more competitions.
The 37-year-old is already scheduled to lead the USA against Europe in September 2023 in Spain before returning to the position in 2024 when it will be played in Virginia at home.
As Team USA looks to win the Cup for the first time since 2017 in Iowa, Lewis, who was rated third in the world between 2012 and 2015, will become the team’s youngest captain in history.
She participated on two winning teams during her four Solheim Cup outings as a player from 2011 to 2017, and in 2019 she worked as Juli Inkster’s unofficial assistant at Gleneagles before taking over the position formally for last year’s loss in Ohio.
“Lewis stated in a statement that being selected to lead the US Solheim Cup squad once more was such a wonderful honour.”
“One of the highlights of my work was answering the initial call, therefore I am sincerely appreciative of the second chance.
“I’ve stated it numerous times: for any athlete, donning the American flag and representing the country stand out as memorable moments.
“It is a tremendous honour to have the opportunity to lead the best players in our country twice, especially in 2024 outside of our country’s capital.”
