PGA Tour Return: Tiger Woods has announced that he will compete on the PGA Tour again at the Genesis Invitational in Los Angeles the following week.
Since the Open Championship at St. Andrews in July of last year, Woods, the tournament’s host at the Riviera Country Club, has not participated in a competitive tournament.
Additionally, Woods, 47, will play in the Genesis Invitational for the first time since the Zozo Championship in October 2020 on the PGA Tour outside of a major.
A horrific vehicle accident in which the 15-time major champion was involved in February 2021 left him with injuries that have plagued him ever since.

On Friday, Woods tweeted, “I’m ready to play an ACTUAL PGA Tour event next week @thegenesisinv.”
The American withdrew from the Hero World Challenge in December due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but later that month he and his son Charlie competed in the two-round PNC Championship, an unofficial competition where buggies are permitted.
Woods unexpectedly made a comeback at The Masters in April of last year, finishing in 47th place. However, he was forced to withdraw after the third round of the PGA Championship the following month due to movement issues.
In July in St Andrews, where he had previously won the Open Championship twice, Woods failed to make the cut.
Woods expressed his desire to compete in all four major tournaments this year in remarks made following his appearance at the PNC Championship in December.
“The objective for the upcoming season,” according to Woods, is to play only the major championships and possibly a couple more. That’s it, then.
Woods makes his PGA Tour comeback at the location of his amateur debut there in 1992 when he was 16 years old. When he most recently competed at the Genesis Invitational in 2020, he came in last place among those who made the cut.
The tournament, which is one of 17 “elevated” events on the PGA Tour this season and is therefore assured to feature players such as world No. 1 Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm, received a boost from the announcement of Woods’ participation.
