PGA Tour: Tiger Woods had an encouraging comeback to PGA Tour action at the Genesis Invitational, but he confesses he is unsure if he will play competitively again until The Masters.
With a final-round score of 73 at Riviera Country Club, Woods made his first competitive appearance since The Open in July of last year and his first PGA Tour outing since the Zozo Championship in October 2020.
With career-threatening injuries incurred in a vehicle accident in February 2021, the 15-time major champion has frequently claimed he would be unable to commit to a full playing schedule, but Woods is still optimistic about playing in all four majors.
Woods told CBS, “Oh, I’m sure you’ll see me somewhere.” “In terms of rivalry, I’m not sure.”
“Playing in all the majors is my only goal for the foreseeable future, and I won’t play much beyond that. Due to my body, leg, and back, I am no longer able to play much more than that.
“Well, I did manage to play three out of the four last year, so maybe I can play them all this year. It will be my timetable going forward because of all of my constraints.”
Woods made three bogeys in a five-hole run starting at the sixth after birdying his first hole. He then mixed two birdies with as many bogeys on the back nine to finish the tournament under par.
During his last round, Woods remarked, “My game is fine. Yes, it has rust on it. I occasionally made some stupid mistakes and didn’t quite adjust to the speed of the greens as quickly as I would have if I had been playing every day.
“But, I believe that generally, I struck the ball as I would at home. As I had to travel on foot from point A to point B, that was the only challenge I had to overcome.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone on my team for always getting me ready so I could at least be in the game. I was able to complete it.”
