IPL 2023: In the opening game of the 2023 IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore will play the Mumbai Indians.
The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 is set to start on March 31, and many believe that the new rules, such as the impact player inclusion and the return of the home-and-away format, will make this season the most interesting in recent memory.
The Mumbai Indians, the most successful franchise in the league, will aim to outperform their results from the previous tournament. Before the competition began, MI icon Kieron Pollard started his new position as the team’s batting coach.
Before deciding to put up his boots, the former Windies captain emphasised the impact Mumbai Indians had had on his career and how he will never again play for another team.
Call me Polly: Pollard to MI players
The 35-year-old recently came forth to discuss his experience as a hitting coach as he starts a new chapter in his career as MI’s batting coach.
“I told them to call me Polly instead than Coach. The joy of playing for the Mumbai Indians and representing the Mumbai community is just beyond words,” Pollard said in a video on MI’s YouTube channel.
“We have a close friendship that goes beyond simply cricket matches and other events, as they have done a lot for me personally and I believe I have done a lot for them as a player. Nothing will change for me; I’ll still be the same way around guys in terms of personality and character,” Furthermore, he said.
The Mumbai Indians’ 2022 IPL season was a complete bust. With just eight points from 14 games, the Rohit Sharma-led team came in last in the IPL points standings. It may be difficult for Rohit Sharma to lead MI to yet another IPL championship because the five-time champions will be missing Jasprit Bumrah due to injury.
