Football news of Manchester United losing 0-5 to Liverpool in their own home, Old Trafford, hit their coach the hardest. While some are analyzing head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s strategies and style, some others have already moved on to figuring out who his possible successor might be (football transfers). Rumours are citing Zinedine Zidane, who faced the sack at Real Madrid in the summer, as likeliest to step in. However, in a surprising development, by his own admission, Zidane has no interest in replacing Solskjaer as United’s manager currently.
Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has reflected on Manchester United’s tactics under head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.
“It’s a team of individuals, not a collective,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club, BBC Sport reports.
“They all want to be the star man instead of doing the basics of football like running and tackling.”
“If you’re bringing Ronaldo in, what’s your style of play?” Richards added. “Ronaldo is available so you think ‘get him’, but you try to fit Bruno [Fernandes], Paul [Pogba], Sancho, Rashford and Mason [Greenwood] in as well, so where is the balance?
“Get some people behind Ronaldo to do his work if that’s what you want to do.
“Solskjaer said they would play on the front foot but against Liverpool you will get picked off, just like they did.
“Get back into a shape with two defensive midfielders to defend, full-backs tuned in and play counter attack.
“United are not as good as City, Liverpool or Chelsea so defend deep and do what you are good at.”
Zidane Has No Interest in Replacing Solskjaer as United’s Manager
Meanwhile, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to lead Manchester United in case of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s resignation.
The Frenchman has no interest in potentially managing the Manchester side.
In fact, he’s actually said to have no intention of taking any job in the near future, claims Mundo Deportivo.
Furthermore, there is only one option that Zidane may consider seriously – taking charge of the France national team.
Whether that may happen after the 2022 World Cup or the Euros in 2024, he is willing to coach France.
Zinedine Zidane, 49, left Real Madrid last summer to finish his second spell in the club.
In his two spells in charge of Madrid, he managed to win three Champions League titles, two domestic championships and two World Cup crowns. He also has 2 UEFA Super Cup victories under his belt.
