US Open: Emma Raducanu had surgery on her ankle and both hands and as a result, she will miss Wimbledon.
The winner of the 2021 US Open has struggled with his condition in recent months and withdrew from the Madrid Open last month due to a hand issue.
The 20-year-old claimed that in an effort to address the problem, she had minor procedures done on both of her hands and on her foot.
She will, at the very least, miss Wimbledon, the French Open, and the entire grass-court season.
After her operation, Raducanu posted a photo to Instagram with the caption, “Hey, it is safe to say the last 10 months have been difficult as I dealt with a reoccurring injury on a bone of both hands.”
“I dramatically decreased my practice schedule, missed many weeks of training, and cut my 2017 season short in an effort to attempt to manage the pain and play through it for most of this year and the end of last year. Unfortunately, it falls short.
“To fix the problems, I’m getting a quick surgery done on both hands. I regret to inform you that I will be sidelined for several months and that, concurrently, my ankle will require another small treatment.
“I tried to downplay the issues, but I want to thank all of my fans who stood by me even if they weren’t aware of the truth. It kills me to miss the summer festivities. I look forward to seeing you all there soon.”
She will probably drop out of the top 100 in the WTA rankings for the first time since her astounding comeback in New York as a result of her withdrawal from Madrid.
Additionally, she was eliminated in the first round at Miami and Stuttgart. In the second round of the Australian Open, Coco Gauff defeated her in straight sets.
Despite Jodie Burrage’s promising start to the season, Raducanu’s anticipated absence from the All England Club in July will be a disappointment because no other British woman is currently ranked among the top 100.
When ranking points were not given out, Heather Watson advanced to the round of 16 and Katie Boulter advanced to the third round at Wimbledon last summer. Both players are currently outside the top 150.
