The French tennis head Bernard Giudicelli said that he would like the French Open to be played in a fully sold-out stadium but he said that only the government can take the final call.
The Grand Slam tournament has been pushed back by 4 months due to the coronavirus pandemic. It would have been in its second week under the original schedule.
The tickets that were sold for the earlier schedule have been reimbursed rather than transferred. The French Tennis Federation president said, “The preferred option is to have a Roland Garros with as many spectators as possible. After that, depending on the health conditions, we will adapt to the directives the government gives us. The government will decide how many people can be there.”
He added, “Roland Garros, like all the major tournaments, is a meeting between the players and the public. That’s what gives this tournament its magic.”
