French Open 2023: Due to the same knee ailment that prevented him from competing in the Australian Open in January, Nick Kyrgios withdrew from the 2023 French Open.
In the weeks leading up to his withdrawal from the Rolland Garros tournament, Kyrgios missed all three ATP 1000 clay-court championships due to the injury, which required surgery in January.
“It’s not looking likely,” according to his agent Daniel Horsfall, who earlier in the day on Tuesday. “Before the information that Nick had withdrawn from the entrance list was confirmed, “We are doing everything we can to have Nick ready on the court as soon as possible.”
Despite having a rocky connection with clay in his career, many people thought Kyrgios would participate in the French Open this year after he told his partner last year that he would: “Next year I am going to travel to Paris. I’m going to the French Open, I’m declaring now,” he stated following a performance in Houston last year, which was his first clay event since 2017.
“I won’t be returning until next year since I haven’t played that in four years. All my girlfriend wants to do is visit Paris. I’ll participate in the French Open as well, I mean.”
Kyrgios reiterated his ambitions during the Diriyah Tennis Cup in December, although he has since withdrawn from the clay-court Major.
In a “race against time,” Nadal must be ready for the French Open.
Rafa Nadal declined a wildcard invitation for the Challenger tournament in Bordeaux the next week since his chances of competing in the French Open are still in doubt, according to the director of the clay-court event.
Due to a hip ailment, Nadal has been sidelined since the Australian Open in January and is currently working to be ready for the Roland Garros Grand Slam, which begins in Paris on May 28.
According to Jean-Baptiste Perlant, “I gave Carlos Costa, the agent for Rafael Nadal, one of the wildcards.
“He very politely informed me that Nadal was still practising at home, that he was unprepared, and that he was rushing to be ready for the French Open.”
Nadal holds the record with 14 French Open victories.
