Tennis News: Roger Federer, arguably the greatest tennis player ever, announced his retirement from the game earlier this year. At the Laver Cup earlier this year, the 20-time Grand Slam champion played his final match, doubles match with longtime friend and foe Rafael Nadal. During a recent appearance on a talk show, Federer told a hilarious anecdote. The host of the programme questioned Federer about the rumour that he was turned away from Wimbledon. Notably, Federer had the most victories of any player at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (ALTEC) with eight titles.
The Swiss maestro said that after attending an event in Tokyo, Japan, he travelled to London to consult a doctor. He also said that he chose to stop by the ALTEC because he had two hours to kill before his flight home.
Then he claimed that a security guard had repeatedly refused to let him inside without a membership card.
“When you win Wimbledon, you become a member automatically. So, I’m like, “No, I don’t have my membership card but I am a member and I’m just wondering where I can get in,” and she said, “Yeah, but you have to be a member.” I was like, “I’m just asking you again where can I get in”, and she said, “The other side, but you have to be a member,” Federer revealed during an appearance on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
I would look at her and say, “I have won this tournament eight times. I’m so sorry, I couldn’t believe and still can’t believe I said this, and I still feel horrible about it. I’m a member, so please believe me! he continued.
Federer continued by saying that he had to travel to a different gate before a security officer recognised him, took his picture, and set up a meeting with the ALTEC chairman.
“I seldom talk like this, so when I stated I had won Wimbledon eight times, for a split second, I wasn’t sure if it was eight anymore because I wondered, “Was it seven, was it eight? I don’t know.
