The lone major champion among the 16 singles quarterfinalists in both the women’s and men’s draws was world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who had won two French Opens.
It has been almost 20 years since a major quarterfinal had no prior Grand Slam champions. The last time it occurred was in 2003 at Wimbledon, where a young Swiss man by the name Roger Federer won the first of his 20 major championships.
Federer, 41, hasn’t competed since Wimbledon in July 2021, while Nadal, who just lost in a Grand Slam for the first time since losing to Djokovic in the French Open semifinals last year, says he doesn’t know when he’ll play again.
With a metal hip, Murray, 35, is making his way back into the race, but Djokovic should continue to be a Slam contender for some time.
There was a brilliant generation that preceded this one that we lost, but there will never be a Serena, Rafa, or Roger. However, there have and will be great champions in the past.
Take a look at the upcoming generation: Emma Raducanu’s incredible performance from a year ago inspired every young athlete striving to achieve greatness.
While Dane Clara Tauson, the Chinese trio of Zheng Qinwen, Wang Xiyu, and Wang Xinyu, as well as 17-year-old Czech Linda Noskova, are all performers to watch out for, 18-year-old Coco Gauff is already a seasoned performer.

Carlos Alcaraz, who naturally leads the charge for the men, is supported by British athlete Jack Draper, 20, Jannik Sinner, 21, and Dane Holger Rune, 19.
“I don’t think it will be a big three. It will be like a big 12. There’s a bunch of guys playing great tennis,” said Tiafoe.
“I think it’s good. For sure you’ll probably have someone who probably like will cement and be at the top. That’s still kind of happening. We’ll see who that person’s going to be.
“It’s cool to see a new era.”
