Australian Open: Due to a leg injury, world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz will miss the Australian Open.
The 19-year-old Spaniard, who won his first Grand Slam championship at the US Open in September, disclosed he injured a muscle in his right leg while practising for the upcoming season.
Using social media to write It’s time to deal with another blow, Alcaraz remarked. When I was at my best in pre-season, I picked up an injury from an accidental, unnatural movement in training.
“The Care A2+ Kooyong [warm-up event] and the Australia Open will both be missed despite my best efforts to perform at my peak for Australia. Although difficult, I must maintain my optimism, get better, and look ahead. See you at the Australian Open in 2024.”

After defeating Casper Ruud in the New York final, Alcaraz surged to the top of the rankings in a remarkable 2022 season, becoming the youngest player ever to occupy the top spot.
When the adolescent tore an abdominal muscle at the end of the season, he was forced to miss the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup Finals.
This most recent setback came at the worst possible time, depriving the Australian Open of one of its most captivating drawcards.
Due to Alcaraz’s absence, Rafael Nadal, a fellow countryman, will be the top seed for his title defence at Melbourne Park when play gets underway on January 16.
