WBA Lightweight Belt: After eight rounds, Gervonta Davis defeated Hector Luis Garcia by technical knockout to retain his WBA world lightweight title.
Garcia suffered his first loss as a professional in Davis’ 17th fight as he overcame a sluggish start to improve to 28-0 with 26 KOs. Early on, Garcia fought Davis hard, but due to vision loss in his right eye, he was unable to answer the bell for round nine.
Although I was a little startled, Davis says, “when I caught him, I realised he was hurt, and he was hurt terribly.” “Because he is a fighter, he was reluctant to display it. But I was aware that he was hurt.”
On April 15, one of boxing’s most eagerly awaited bouts of the year will take place when Baltimore native Davis takes on Ryan Garcia in his second hometown.
I’ll be prepared, Davis assured. “I’m prepared for combat. Let’s find out who is truly interested in something once he has trained and spoken about it.”
Tank Davis had to first beat out Garcia, a Dominican who, according to him, earned his spot with a good 2022.
When Davis was detained and accused of domestic violence in late December, the altercation was in danger of being called off. However, the woman who had contacted the police afterwards released a statement on social media claiming that Davis had not hurt her or our daughter.
In a since-deleted social media post, Davis, who was later freed on bail and denied the accusations, said he was not concerned about the fight not happening since he only wanted to vindicate his name.
After the main event’s 19,731 sold-out audiences waited until just before 1 am to begin, Davis and Garcia took a bit longer to begin, beginning with a few low-key rounds with very few punches thrown.
In the fourth round, Davis rediscovered his rhythm, landing multiple jabs and raising the crowd to their feet.
In my attempt to defeat him intellectually, Davis admitted. “I was attempting to deceive him with my hands and eyes. I had to lure him in because of his skill as a fighter.”
Midway through the eighth round, the referee stopped the fight due to an argument taking place ringside, which caused Davis and Garcia to get disoriented. For much than a minute after the break, Davis continued to battle, hitting enough hits to win the bout.
Up until that point, said to Garcia through an interpreter, “Everything was going great. I would occasionally place him in an undesirable circumstance, and I would choose my battles against him accordingly. I thought the fight was going well up until that point.”
