Boxing Championship: Chris Eubank Jr says he’s open to fighting Amir Khan or Kell Brook, but Gennady Golovkin is still his top priority

Boxing Championship: Chris Eubank Jr claims he wants to face Gennadiy Golovkin for the world title, but he’s also interested in facing the winner of Kell Brook’s grudge match with Amir Khan.

Eubank Jr defeated Liam Williams by a wide margin last weekend and is eyeing a world title bout this summer, with IBF middleweight champion Golovkin his top choice.

Eubank Jr told Sky Sports News, “That is the No. 1 aim.” “He’s on my shortlist for the next bout. He is at the top of the priority list.

“But that’s what makes the middleweight category so interesting right now: there are so many great names and world titles to fight for.

“We’re gunning for a big name and a big title in the summer.”

Golovkin was scheduled to fight WBA champion Ryota Murata in December, but the bout was postponed and is expected to be rescheduled, thus jeopardising Eubank Jr’s chances of fighting in the summer.

In 2016, the pair were on the verge of a bout in the United Kingdom until Brook replaced Eubank Jr and lost badly.

On February 19, Brook and Amir Khan will finally settle British boxing’s longest-running feud, and Eubank Jr would consider fighting the winner.

“If the fans want it, then absolutely,” replied Eubank Jr when asked about a potential fight against Brook. “We’ll have to see what happens in the fight with him and Amir.

“Would a fight with the winner be a possibility? Absolutely. If the fans want it, I’m down 100 per cent.”

Conor Benn, who competes at welterweight two weight divisions below Eubank Jr, believes he has a good shot of a catch-weight.

Their renowned fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank, famously fought in the 1990s, but Eubank Jr sees no fight in the near future.

“We’re so far apart in terms of where we are in our careers,” said Eubank Jr. “We’re not in the same weight class. If he’s able to move up in weight then I’m open to it.

“He tweeted after the fight that he fancies his chances. That’s strong words. I giggled when I saw that because he obviously doesn’t know what it really would take to get in the ring with me.”

“Further down the line, in a few years if he can make the weight, then let’s go.”
