Boxing Fight: Frazer Clarke, according to Fabio Wardley, “has no way out” of a British title fight and “can cut up” and “knock out” his heavyweight opponent when they share the ring.
Both fighters have vowed to knock their opponent out. Clarke is likewise unbeaten at 6-0 with five stoppages, and Wardley has won 15 of his 16 career decisions by knockout.
“I will definitely be the last one remaining,” Wardley assured Sky Sports. “I’ve stood there and traded with people before, and I’ve always won.
“Everyone knows and has seen that I love and live for a tear-up, so if he wants to stand face-to-face, square on, in the middle, and hash it out, then I’m more than happy to do so. It’s something I do quite frequently and probably goes against the advice of my coaches, who want me to box more conservatively. I’m positive I’ll win with absolute certainty.”
Wardley acknowledges that having the fight sooner rather than later would be to his advantage rather than Clarke’s, but he thinks the Olympian cannot afford to back out of the potential match.
“He is easily cut up. It has been observed and proved. Even in a brief encounter like the one he had with Bogdan Dinu, he sustained a significant cut that gave him some trouble. Blood can enter the eyes above the head. He clearly has sensitive skin in that area, which makes it difficult for someone like myself to hit hard against him.
“It’s probably not in their best interests for the fight to start right away, but regardless of their wishes, the battle has been ordered, so we’re going to start it. There is no escape. If he flees from this as well, he won’t be able to appear anyplace. He won’t be able to appear in a boxing ring again if he withdraws for any reason or decides he doesn’t want the spot.”
In promoting Portman Road, the home of his team Ipswich Town, as the best location for the two’s all-British match, Wardley has questioned Clarke’s own football loyalties at the same time.
