Boxing Live: According to promoter Ben-Shalom, Martin Bakole would be the “perfect opponent” for Tyson Fury to face next.
It’s only logical for Bakole’s team to make that point. However, Tyson Fury’s co-promoter, Bob Arum, has identified Bakole and Agit Kabayel as potential opponents.
“Because of his commercial value, [Fury] would probably get Martin cheaper than anyone else,” says Bakole’s coach Billy Nelson. “Bakole, on the other hand, would undoubtedly put up a better fight than anyone else.”
“Tyson Fury is such a big star that people just want to see him in good fights,” said BOXXER promoter Shalom. “There aren’t many battles or boxers out there that can compete with Tyson Fury, and Martin Bakole is unquestionably one of them.”
“Bakole is looking forward to the duel. As long as we’re getting paid fairly,” Nelson added. “Martin has a bit of a reputation here. Tyson Fury would sell out Wembley Stadium to fight the man from the local tavern. We all know he’ll get the great majority of the money.
“Perfect opponent doesn’t cost the world, but it gives you a fight you can sell,” Shalom remarked. “I believe it would be an excellent opportunity for Martin, but also an excellent battle for Tyson Fury.”
Bakole has already sparred with Fury, which gives his trainer confidence. “At the time, Jarrell Miller, Joe Parker, and David Adeleye were all in the camp, and Martin was a mile better than anybody else, and Tyson knew it, and he appreciated it,” Nelson recounted.
“I’m aware of Martin Bakole’s abilities. Tyson feels the same way. Therein lays the issue.”
Fury still does not have a bout date or opponent for 2023 after talks for the undisputed heavyweight championship clash with Oleksandr Usyk fell through earlier this year.
“I believe fans, particularly boxing fans, would be excited to see Martin Bakole take on Tyson Fury. We speak about boxing fans not getting the fights they want and the top lads not taking severe tests; it would be a tough test for Tyson Fury, and I believe he would know it, and I believe it would sell phenomenally as a result. It’s an exciting fight,” Shalom added.
