ODI series: India would be eager to settle the score in the next ODI series after India defeated Australia in the four-match Test series for the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy by a score of 2-1. A three-match One-Day International series between Australia and India is set to start on March 17.
India will be without their captain Rohit Sharma for the first ODI of the series owing to family obligations as they get ready to face the formidable Australians. India’s first ODI will be captained by his replacement, Hardik Pandya.
Sunil Gavaskar, a renowned batsman, came up after it was revealed that Hardik will captain India in the first ODI to laud Pandya and his captaincy. He added that Pandya gives the team a sense of comfort and that his treatment of the players is among the best.
It’s comforting to watch Hardik Pandya leading the team: Gavaskar
When speaking on the Star Sports show “Game Plan,” the 73-year-old lavished praise on the all-leadership rounder’s skills. A group of specialists gathered to talk about a range of subjects prior to the ODI series between Australia and India.
“With Hardik Pandya leading the team, you can see that he is at ease with the other players. Perhaps it’s the way he interacts with them and wraps his arm around them. Simply put, he seems to comfort the players. Giving a player a sense of comfort is crucial in order for him to play his natural game. He seems to be encouraging them, which is a great indication,” The Little Master said.
“He has proven to be a capable skipper. His leadership of the Gujarat Titans T20 team as well as India while he is captaining the T20 team has greatly impressed me. I do think that if he wins the opening match in Mumbai, you can nearly guarantee that he will captain India after the 2023 World Cup,” He went on to say.
