Cricket News: Veteran Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz claims that under former PCB chairman Ramiz Raja’s leadership, cricketers older than 30 were never given a chance to be selected. Notably, Raja was fired from his position as chairman and was replaced by Najam Sethi.
Riaz further said that the former PCB chairman never responded to his text messages. The 37-year-old continued by saying that he spoke with a PCB officer who appeared pleased that Raja had lost his seat on the board.
“Anyone over 30 was considered unsuitable to play. They said that it might compromise the team’s cohesiveness or performance. Who of the members of the selected team has excelled? No player, in my opinion, has had as many opportunities as those under Ramiz bhai. We received no more than two games. The top selector then appears and remarks, “This squad has given you a lot of delight,” after all of that. This is what? Eid?” as quoted by News18, Riaz.
“I was speaking with a board member, and he expressed his happiness that Ramiz bhai was leaving. As a result, your subordinates were not pleased with you. During his term, I messaged Ramiz bhai 4-5 times, telling him I was looking forward to his calls and messages. He did not respond to me. Why? I’m still playing cricket now; I haven’t retired,” Riaz continued.
The PCB has seen a change in leadership, with Shahid Afridi being named as the team’s interim chief selector and Sethi resuming his position as chairman.
