International Cricket: Wahab Riaz, a seasoned Pakistani bowler, has suggested that Mohammad Amir, a retired speedster, may play international cricket once more. Amir retired from T20I and ODI cricket two years ago, but he has continued to play regularly in franchise cricket ever since. Amir had previously declared his intention to stop playing Test cricket on July 26, 2019.
In December 2020, Amir, a 30-year-old left-arm bowler, abruptly announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 28. He cited the management’s mistreatment as the cause of his choice and laid the responsibility at their feet. Wahab stated that Amir may be Pakistan’s third-choice bowler behind Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf and believes that Amir is likely to return to international cricket.
“Mohammad Amir might make a comeback to play for Pakistan once more. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf are here, but there are still openings in the other three positions. Bowlers competing for it include Hasan Ali, Shahnawaz Dahani, Naseem Shah, and Muhammad Wasim. “Amir might return as well,” Riaz stated in a Samaa TV interview on Tuesday.
I had a lot of investment from Najam Sethi and Shahid Afridi: Ahmad Mohammad
Wahab’s remarks followed a significant change in management at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier this month. The Ramiz Raja-led administration was fired by the Pakistani government last week, and a 14-member committee headed by the former chairman Najam Sethi took over.
Last week saw Sethi make his first significant choice when he named former captain Shahid Afridi as acting Chief Selector. When announcing his 2020 retirement, Amir praised Shahid Afridi and Najam Sethi and thanked them for their significant financial investments in him.
“The claim that the PCB made a significant investment in me has tortured me. I’ll simply say that [former PCB chairman] Najam Sethi and [former Pakistan captain] Shahid Afridi made significant investments in me. The only two were them. We don’t want to play with Amir, the rest of the team was saying,” Amir stated that he will be quitting international cricket in December 2020.
