Cricket News: Mohammad Amir, a former member of the Pakistan national team, was usually assertive whenever he confronted Babar Azam in the centre. During the current Pakistan Super League (PSL), the rivalry reached a new level when the pacer became enraged after Babar struck him for a boundary. Since then, rumours have circulated that there may be animosity between these two cricketers.
Amir clarified the situation by claiming that rivalry is necessary in order to foster a competitive atmosphere in the game. He continued by saying that the bowler vs. batter rivalry keeps spectators interested in franchise cricket.
“This [healthy competition] is essential. While facing the finest batsman in the world, you want to give everything you’ve got, and the bowler needs to be aggressive. Franchise cricket’s batter vs bowler rivalry keeps spectators interested in the competition,” according to Amir, who Cricket Pakistan quoted.
Notably, the 30-year-old said that bowling to Babar Azam or a tailender is the same for him while participating in the PSL this season. He corrected that, though, saying that his only goal is to help the team win games. As a result, he wants to take as many wickets as he can without giving any consideration to the batters in front of him.
“Players are kept alert by these types of contests and player rivalries. Personally, I enjoy them since they help me stay focused. For me, facing Babar or a tailender batting at number 10 will be the same because my duty is to take wickets and help my team win games,” the pacer declared.
Amir joined the Asia Lions team at the present Legends League Masters after his PSL team, Karachi Kings, was eliminated (LLC Masters). Amir let up 29 runs in three overs in his first game of the competition, which resulted in Asia Lions’ 10-wicket loss against India Maharajas. On March 16 at Doha’s West End Park International Cricket Stadium, they will take on the World Giants.
