WTC Final: Following India’s loss to Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final on Sunday, June 11, at The Oval in London, head coach Rahul Dravid delivered a plain evaluation of his team’s preparations.
The team is headed by Rohit Sharma. India was comprehensively defeated by Australia by a massive margin of 209 runs. Not only did the Australian team win the coveted Mace, but they also became the first team to capture all ICC championships across all versions of the game.
Following India’s defeat, head coach Rahul Dravid issued a harsh appraisal, stating that he would never be pleased with his team’s preparations. He also emphasised the hectic timetable that is hampering preparations for the summit clash.
“As a coach, I’ll never be satisfied with the preparations.” But it’s the reality I’m willing to embrace, and that we all must accept. The timetables are quite constrained. “These guys know… if you’re playing international cricket, and you’re here three weeks before the tour, playing two side-games, you’re going to be better prepared,” Dravid remarked after India’s loss on Star Sports.
“However, we don’t have that. The circumstances do not permit it. We must make do with what we have. I have no excuses or concerns; I simply want to congratulate Australia on winning the final; they outplayed us on all five days. “We just need to look at ourselves and see where we can improve and where we can get better,” he continued.
India hopes to end its dismal trend in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Notably, the Pat Cummins-led Australia dominated over the five days, setting a huge 444-run mark on the last day. Despite a strong start in the chase, the Indian side’s loss of wickets at regular intervals ended their hopes of hoisting the coveted mace. Team India will now attempt to assemble a core squad for the next ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in October-November, and strive for their first ICC trophy in over a decade.
