WTC Final: Day 5 of the World Test Championship final (WTC) 2023 ended in anguish for India as they succumbed to the unrelenting assault of Australia’s bowling attack. Following Virat Kohli’s departure, India faced early pressure as they attempted to chase down 280 runs before the start of the day’s play.
The remainder of the batting order couldn’t help much. Ajinkya Rahane, Srikar Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur were unable to drive India to a historic victory in the WTC final.
Furthermore, following the devastating loss, skipper Rohit Sharma spoke out about the likelihood of a three-match WTC final. The 36-year-old believes that in such a large series, both sides should be given a fair chance. He also noted that after putting in so much effort during the cycle, only getting one shot at the crown does not feel fair.
“I’d love to, but is there a time limit?” That is the crucial question. But, in a large tournament like this, you have to offer both sides equal chances. A three-match series would be ideal, but it’s all about hitting that sweet spot. “But I would love to have it (more games) in an event like this,” Rohit Sharma remarked after the game.
“You work for two years and you only get one shot.” You can’t get into that kind of groove. Finding that momentum is essential in test cricket. So, if feasible, a three-match series in the following cycle would be great,” he said.
Playable everywhere in the world: Sharma
Furthermore, the Indian captain noted that the WTC final should not only be played in June, but that the place for the ultimate Test match may also vary, and it can be staged anywhere other than England.
“The WTC Final should not just be played in June. It can be played all across the world, not only in England,” Rohit Sharma explained.
