WTC Final: Australia and India are currently playing in the 2023 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London. When India’s captain Rohit Sharma won the toss for the important game, he decided to field first.
Farokh Engineer, a former keeper-batter for India, attacked the team’s choice to choose to bowl first. The Indian batsmen didn’t want to bat first and be exposed to the Australian bowling assault, he claimed, thus the choice astonished him.
“India winning the toss, the decision (to bowl first) is a bit surprising, but I think the decision was taken because our batsmen do not want to be exposed to the Australian attack on a fresh green track,” Engineer was cited as saying by News 18.
The 85-year-old said that Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj would be essential players for the team coached by Rohit Sharma. He predicts that Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill will both play admirably, with Cheteshwar Pujara serving as team India’s primary batter.
“Mohd Shami & Siraj are effective, therefore we have optimism. They should work well, in my opinion. It’s a brave choice…Cheteshwar Pujara is an important member of the opposition. We have a really strong batting lineup, including Virat and Shubman Gill. It’s a pretty strong side overall,” he continued.
It is difficult to omit Ashwin: Rohit
Team India made the decision to sit seasoned spinner Ravichandran Ashwin due to the state of the field. Ravindra Jadeja was the only spinner chosen by India, while KS Bharat kept the wicket instead of Ishan Kishan.
“It is challenging to rule Ashwin out.” “He has been a match-winner for us,” the India captain said at the toss, “It is not a wonderful occasion to leave him out, but you have to do what is best for the team in the circumstances.”
