NZ vs PAK: Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson expressed his surprise at Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s decision to declare the innings with only one hour remaining in the first Test match in Karachi. The play was halted by poor lighting during the last session of Day 5 at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, and the match concluded in a tie.
Imam-ul-Haq finished his second innings with 96 off 206 as Pakistan declared at 311/8. Additionally, 71 runs were added by Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Saud Shakeel for the ninth wicket to move Pakistan’s score ahead. Babar made the decision to declare their innings with an hour left, giving New Zealand a target of 138 runs in 15 overs.
“Saud Shakeel kept Pakistan from losing when it looked like it may, while Ish Sodhi finished with career-best scores of 6/86. The biggest shock came next when Babar declared with an hour left to play and offered the Kiwis a reward. A brave and admirable declaration was made in order to keep the audience amused, and Latham and Conway succeeded in doing so by engaging in T20 play. We had to declare a draw after just 7.3 overs of the final innings due to poor lighting, said Williamson in the post-game interview.
It’s important to note that Sodhi enjoyed fantastic bowling numbers for the team of 37-11-86-6. Devon Conway and Tom Latham put together an unbroken combination of 52 run off 6.3 overs as the Black Caps came out swinging in an attempt to defeat Pakistan in response to the ambitious target set by the hosts. The game ended in a draw, but that was all for the Kiwis as terrible lighting finally put a halt to play.
