Real Madrid star Karim Benzema limped off the pitch with an injury in Saturday’s match against Real Sociedad. After Carlo Ancelotti replaced the striker with Luka Jovic, Benzema will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan.
Benzema (in recent football news) has been in incredible form this year, scoring 35 goals in 46 matches across 2021.
The injury, over which he limped off-pitch against Sociedad in the 16th minute, is in relation to his left hamstring.
The forward pulled up short after making a run down the left wing on Saturday against Real Sociedad. And while Benzema couldn’t continue play, he did decide to limp off the field on his own, without seeking assistance.
Ancelotti’s initial impression was that the injury is not overly concerning.
“The Benzema thing does not seem serious at all, but I do not think it will be available for Tuesday,” Ancelotti told reporters.
Then, on Monday – yesterday, Real Madrid’s medical staff re-evaluated Benzema’s hamstring to determine the extent of his ailment.
And indeed, the scans have confirmed Ancelotti’s prediction that the injury is not serious or long-term.
However, regardless of this near miss in injury scares, Benzema is a certain absence for the Inter match.
Benzema Will Miss Real Madrid’s Champions League Clash with Inter
Benzema’s status appears relatively positive, though he’ll at least miss the mid-week Champions League clash with Inter for Real Madrid.
“Karim has had a problem, it bothered him a little and it didn’t I think [he will be there] for Tuesday, but maybe for Sunday, yes,” Ancelotti added in his post-match press conference.
His status for the Atletico Madrid match remains unclear as of yet.
