Champions League Football News – Messi Scores a Brace in PSG’s Win
When Christopher Nkunku surged through on goal and laid off Konrad Laimer, the goal-shy midfielder fluffed his effort. But the home side barely avoided an early scare.
PSG then made Leipzig pay for their squandering within the first ten minutes, cutting them open with a free-flowing counterattack. Kylian Mbappe eventually finished it with a goal in the 9th minute.
But after giving away this lead, Leipzig surged into the game as the first half proceeded. Andre Silva hit the woodwork with a half-volley just before the half-hour mark. Silva scored minutes later, when he went sliding in Angelino’s cross at the back post.
So, the first half ended in a 1-1 deadlock and after the break, Leipzig took the lead. With Angelino assisting again, he crossed for Nordi Mukiele to score.
However, after a poor start to the second half, PSG scored an equaliser with 66 minutes on the clock.
Mbappe and Messi combined to equalize the scores. The Frenchman brought the ball back expertly, and Messi tapped it in on the rebound after his first effort failed.
Shortly after, Mohamed Simakan pulled down Mbappe in the box, and La Pulga scored again with a magnificent Panenka spot-kick.
Leipzig responded by bringing on attacking reinforcements in an attempt to save the game. But PSG held on to take the three points.
Mbappe squandered a chance to make it 4-2. He misfired on his own penalty after Messi conceded, to Mbappe, a chance to achieve a hat trick.
