Yesterday, Manchester United produced a lacklustre display to tie against Young Boys in their final Champions League Group F match. So, among other Champions League football news, United drew 1-1 with Young Boys even at home, Old Trafford, on Wednesday.
New manager Ralf Rangnick made 11 changes from his first match in charge on Sunday. He rotated the entire roster despite Manchester United’s guaranteed top spot in Group B, or perhaps precisely because of this.
And this complete squad reversal saw Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga making their respective Champions League debuts for the club.
Rangnick also gave a United debuts to goalkeeper Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage in the second half. Another substitute in the second half was Tom Heaton, who debuted for United 11 years after first leaving the club.
Meanwhile, Young Boys knew a victory here would give them a chance of finishing third in the group. They would thus be qualifying for the Europa League from Group F.

It was Manchester United who started stronger and took the lead in superb fashion on nine minutes through Mason Greenwood. He caught Luke Shaw’s cross with a superb bicycle kick.
However, United missed a ton of chances to double their lead and suffered for these error three minutes before half-time.
Fabian Rieder leapt onto Donny van de Beek’s poor pass to hit a stunning effort past goalkeeper Dean Henderson. And this is how Rieder scored an equalizer for his Swiss club from the edge of the box.
Young Boys’ confidence shot up after this goal goal and they were almost ahead just moments later. This was because United were simultaneously failing to re-find their rhythm after conceding the equalizing goal.
The visitors continued to look the more likely to find the winner after the break, too.
Quentin Maceiras had a chance to score but he fired wide when he should have done better. Then, Elanga forced a good save from Young Boys goalkeeper Guillaume Faivre.
The other match in this group, between Atalanta and Villarreal, suffered a postponement due to heavy snow.
