The previous financial year has incurred a net loss of 4.5 million euros for Eredivisie club Feyenoord. The outcome is nevertheless far better than the 2020–21 fiscal year, which saw a loss of €17 million realised. Feyenoord does anticipate a profitable net result for the following year, though.
Eredivisie club Feyenoord foresees profit in the future
The players’ result was a 10 million euro loss. Which is why all significant player transfers were only made after July 1. The final result was a net loss of 4.5 million euros after interest and taxes. Positive aspects include the fact that the Conference League’s performance led to an increase in revenue. Of 87 million euros and a modest operational profit of 1 million euros.
The transfers of players like Tyrell Malacia, Luis Sinisterra, Marcos Senesi, and Fredrik Aursnes that occurred after July 1 reportedly brought in close to 70 million euros, according to financial director Pieter Smorenburg. “The funds will be dispersed over a number of years, and after paying for all necessary expenses and taxes, we will be left with between 45 and 50 million euros. The majority of the money has been reinvested because we aim to once again fulfil our sporting goals this season,” Smorenburg stated.
Following the arrival of Javairô Dilrosun, Mats Wieffer, Quinten Timber, Santiago Giménez, Marcos Lopez, Igor Paixo, David Hancko, and Ezequiel Bullaude, Feyenoord reported having paid almost 38 million euros for their services. The payments will be made in a maximum of four-year instalments. Smorenburg believes that even though Feyenoord’s financial situation needs to improve, the team’s sporting objectives must come first.
“After all, as was once again strongly demonstrated last summer, new sporting achievement leads to new financial success,” he says. Feyenoord asserts that the choice to forgo building a new stadium had little to no effect on the numbers. Feyenoord had already promised to pay 2.9 million euros toward the costs of planning if the project didn’t move forward. In prior years, that sum had already been noted in the books with the payment period spanning several years.
