SC Heerenveen 0-1 Feyenoord: Feyenoord qualified for the semi-finals of the KNVB cup tournament on Wednesday evening. The team from Rotterdam defeated SC Heerenveen after a difficult match. In the Abe Lenstra Stadium, Santiago Giménez became the match winner with the only goal.
Feyenoord also visited Friesland two and a half weeks ago. The team from Rotterdam was already having a hard time then, but an important victory was achieved in the Eredivisie. Compared to that game, trainer Arne Slot had made one change in his starting line-up. Alireza Jahanbakhsh kicked off at the Abe Lenstra Stadium, while Quinten Timber was allowed to show up in the previous confrontation. Heerenveen coach Kees van Wonderen, on the other hand, received bad news a few hours before kick-off. The sick strongholder Thom Haye was missing.
Two years ago, the teams also played against each other in the quarterfinals. Then it became a spectacle and Heerenveen won (4-3). And the home team intended to make it the same game. It soon grabbed the leader of the Eredivisie by the throat. Sydney van Hooijdonk got rid of Lutsharel Geertruida and immediately tested goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther, but the goalkeeper was on his post. Rami Al Hajj and Van Hooijdonk tried again, while Dávid Hancko headed a corner kick on behalf of Feyenoord on the roof of the Frisian goal.
The eager Van Hooijdonk asserted himself frequently in the first half and ensured that Feyenoord had their hands full with him. A header went over, while the striker had a huge chance after half an hour. Orkun Kökçü laconically stepped on the ball and created the opportunity, but Van Hooijdonk shot into the side net from close range. As a result, the moderately playing Rotterdammers escaped arrears at the start of the break.
Second half
After the break Feyenoord seemed to be better for the day. Giménez and Kökçü were immediately dangerous, but after fifteen minutes Slot’s team relaxed the reins again. Al Hajj took advantage of this, but his shot hit the well-positioned Hartman. Ché Nunnely hit Wellenreuther with a volley, while the Frisians screamed for a penalty moments later. Substitute Neraysho Kasanwirjo brought Osama Sahraoui to the ground, but referee Pol van Boekel waved the call for a penalty kick away.
