GA Eagles 0-0 Ajax: Ajax again suffered an expensive loss of points in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The pursuer of leader Feyenoord came to a visit to Go Ahead Eagles no further than a goalless draw, allowing the team from Rotterdam to take further distance.
Ajax had been warned for the duel in Deventer. Go Ahead won 2-1 against the team from Amsterdam last season and took a point in October in the Johan Cruijff Arena (1-1). Trainer John Heitinga opted for Brian Brobbey and Youri Baas, among others, in De Adelaarshorst. Brobbey started in the striker, which sent Dusan Tadic to the left flank, while Heitinga said that he was not satisfied with Owen Wijndal and therefore gave Baas a chance.
Ajax lays out the red carpet for Feyenoord on a disappointing afternoon in Deventer
Heitinga hoped that Brobbey would show up in Deventer. Since the former international took over from Alfred Schreuder, the striker has mainly had to make do with raids. Brobbey showed himself in the first half with a good pass that created a chance for Davy Klaassen and a good attempt that goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange had to intervene on. On the other hand, Finn Stokkers encountered keeper Gerónimo Rulli.
Ajax certainly did not play its strongest game and had trouble with Go Ahead. But after more than half an hour it seemed to take the lead. Seemed, because Mohammed Kudus’ 0-1 drew a line. The Ghanaian headed in from a Steven Berghuis cross, after which the flag was raised for offside. When the VAR then reviewed the images, it turned out that with the available camera angles it could not draw a clear offside line with the technology at its disposal. As a result, the arbitration decision stood.
So it remained at 0-0 and shortly after the moment Go Ahead had a great opportunity to make it 1-0. After poor defending by Jorge Sánchez, however, the home team did not get the ball to Bobby Adekanye, who was in a promising position. The team of trainer René Hake was also not happy with the fact that referee Sander van der Eijk whistled too early before the break, in their opinion, while Go Ahead hoped to use a counter.
Second half
When Heitinga saw halfway through the second half that Ajax wasn’t going to play better. And wasn’t getting closer to a goal. The coach decided to intervene. He brought exactly the players to the side that was mainly about beforehand: Brobbey and Baas. They were replaced by Steven Bergwijn and Owen Wijndal. They saw Klaassen play from a distance a little later, with De Lange saving the ball. Even with Francisco Conceição and Lorenzo Lucca coming on as a substitute, Ajax was no longer able to score. Go Ahead held its ground and once again took away expensive points for the team from Amsterdam.
