PSV 3-1 FC Twente: After winning the top match against FC Twente ( 3-1 ), Ruud van Nistelrooy spoke highly of Johan Bakayoko.
With two flawless assists, Bakayoko played a leading role in the victory over the Tukkers. The Belgian attacker put the ball on the head of Fábio Silva early on and did the same for Luuk de Jong in the second half. Exactly as was planned in advance in the game plan of the Eindhoven team. “We wanted to give crosses through Bakayoko and then reach the second post with Fábio,” Van Nistelrooy reflected at his press conference.
This century, only three PSV players gave two assists in one Eredivisie match at a younger age: Noni Madueke, Arjen Robben and Jürgen Locadia. “It is very clever what he is doing,” says Van Nistelrooy.
The trainer is therefore pleased that PSV did not sell the young attacker in January, despite an offer from Paris Saint-Germain that could rise to fifteen million euros via bonuses. “It was out of the question for him to leave. We see him as a very important player for PSV in the future,” says Van Nistelrooy.
He concludes, “This is his first season at the highest level. Of course I experienced him at Jong PSV. What he’s already doing, how many minutes he’s made, the performance he’s showing… He doesn’t really suffer from stage fright. He always does his thing, is very self-confident and believes in his qualities. That’s pretty good at that age.”
Luuk de Jong’s hundredth goal for PSV
Luuk de Jong scored his hundredth goal for PSV against FC Twente on Sunday afternoon (3-1). The PSV captain was especially happy with the three points.
As the sixth player in PSV history, De Jong broke the 100-hit mark on Sunday. Can he name the other five? “No, you shouldn’t ask me those quiz questions, I’m very bad at that,” De Jong laughed in conversation with ESPN. “To be honest, I didn’t really think about it, but it’s certainly a nice milestone.”
His goal, the 2-1, came at an important moment. “You get that 1-1 right after the break, you don’t want to leave the dressing room like that. But I think we handled it well after that. We didn’t really put much pressure on Twente, but together we played compactly and a bit more out of the transition,” says De Jong.
