Peter Vindahl leaves for Germany. AZ’s reserve goalkeeper moves on a loan deal to 1. FC Nürnberg, the 11th place side of the 2. Bundesliga. The German club immediately sought a closing post due to the injury of Christian Mathenia.
The 24-year-old Dane was still first choice last season, but has not yet played an official minute for the Alkmaarders this season. That while first goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst was not always convincing either.
Vindahl’s contract in Alkmaar runs until mid-2025. In the summer of 2021, the North Hollanders still deposited 1.8 million euros for the long goalie. In the previous season he made 48 appearances and was even called up for the national team, for which he ultimately did not make his debut.
Even in his first year, his performances were not always beyond reproach. And eventually he also lost his place. AZ does not mention an option to buy. In addition to Verhulst, AZ also has twenty-year-old Sem Westerveld at its disposal. The son of former international Sander Westerveld played eleven times this season for Young AZ in the Kitchen Champion Division.
In other Eredivisie transfer news, Jarrad Branthwaite will complete the season at PSV. The defender, loaned in from Everton, will remain in Eindhoven despite Italian interest.
Everton had stipulated in the loan agreement the right to bring Branthwaite back in the winter break if the defender was not given enough playing time. The Toffees could actually claim that right, with AS Roma being mentioned as a possible destination.
However, Branthwaite gained significant playtime in the Netherlands this season. This convinced Everton not to use the right to remove him from Eindhoven. The defender himself also preferred a longer stay in the Netherlands.
It would be interesting to see the impact the defender will have at Eindhoven in the remainder of the season. As they are currently 3rd in the league, three points behind Feyenoord and level on points with Ajax.
